gold ol' marty.

While procrastinating by reading movie reviews for Shutter Island, I found out that Martin Scorsese was hired to direct a commercial for Chanel's new ad campaign.

Let me just say: GENIUS. Film and fashion together, especially two of the best in each respective field... ahh, AMAZING! I can't wait until the finished product premiere's in September. I know some of you might be wondering, "Hasn't this been done before?" There was a lot of coverage last year on Michael Bay directing a Victoria's Secret Commercial, but I am positive that it will be no where on the level of Scorsese. Bay is all about the action and shock factors without real substance (Transformers, anyone?) while Scorsese... I don't even have the right words, that man is just a genius. Maybe I'm a little biased because he is one of my favorite directors, but it's with good reason lol.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to see Shutter Island this weekend, but I will definitely be seeing it as soon as possible. It's odd since I usually see all of Leo DiCaprio's movies opening weekend (same goes for Johnny Depp--my two favorite actors--sooo versatile!). Many critics were slamming Marty for trying something different so late in his career, but that's the aspect that I'm most looking forward to actually. Upon reaching success in a certain realm, I feel that it is important for one to seek new challenges and growth. I'm not usually a fan of directors making it a habit of working with the same actors à la Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, whose appeal I just don't get, but it seems that Scorsese and DiCaprio make a perfect team, as do Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (ALICE next WEEK!!!)... hmmm, notice a pattern here? :D

Scorsese is also directing a pilot for HBO called Boardwalk Empire. What will he do next?
