For the last year or so, I've been so intrigued and downright anxious to see how Twilight and Thirteen director Catherine Hardwicke would interpret the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The film stars Amanda Seyfried, one of my new favorite actresses who has definitely shot to stardom in the last year.
I'm sure the media will criticize and make generalizations because of Hardwicke's establishment of the Twilight mega-franchise. Well... I mean, c'mon, werewolves? Forbidden love? Supernatural elements? The obvious visual similarities that are essential to her directorial style (the forest, the wideshots of snowy landscapes or the trees that look like they are a direct screen-grab from Twilight)? Oh, not to mention the fact that she once said that leading man Shiloh Fernandez was her second choice to play Edward Cullen. Who can blame them? Regardless, I have such high hopes for this. It's such a different direction than I was expecting this story to take. It's not at all how you think of Little Red Riding hood, and that is precisely why I'm excited. I'm hoping critics will judge this film in it's own right -- independent of Twilight.
What do you think of the trailer?
UPDATE: I just found out that my love, Leo DiCaprio, is actually a producer on this film. Surprising, yet intriguing.
