emmy wrap-up!

Last night's Emmy Awards not only brought about excitement for the upcoming fall tv premiere season, it also allowed our favorite stars to get all dolled up and polished (which is a dream come true for red carpet and tv junkies like myself). While I wasn't able to catch the broadcast due to work commitments, I raced home to catch the list of winners and all the pictures of red carpet arrivals. I was able to catch the highlight clips this morning! (Props to George Clooney)

First off, the two big awards of the night, best drama and comedy series, went to two of my favorite shows on television right now, Mad Men and Modern Family. This is Mad Men's third year winning, and it's no surprise. It really is such a smart and captivating show--and not just for those in the ad industry; it serves as somewhat of a cultural commentary time-capsule (if that makes any sort of sense, lol). And while many expected Glee to win the big comedy prize (which I wouldn't have minded, since it's also another favorite--clearly I watch too much tv), I'm really proud that Modern Family pulled a stunning upset. While Glee also has a pro-acceptance message, Modern Family really captures the evolution of the American family in such a clever way. Maybe I'm just a big ABC show fan, but I was happy with the winners. Shout out to Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, for a much deserved supporting actress win for Glee, btw!

Now, to what you're really wanting: the fashion! While the Emmy's are slightly more understated than the Oscars, only one or two looks really impressed me. There were a few disasters, but I won't mention those. Instead, here are my favorite looks from the night:

Glee's Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. She was on several best dressed lists, and while I adore this dress and color, I'm not loving the hair... maybe it's the bangs? With her statement necklace, a loose updo would've probably made this my favorite look.

Eva Longoria has amazing red carpet style. She always makes it onto my list because she takes risks and always, always looks amazing. This wasn't her best look by any means, but I'm loving the rose details. The black seems very understated for her usual taste, so perhaps if it was in a different color... maybe.

Another Glee actress, Diana Argon, in Carolina Herrera. This dress has been the subject of debate, but I actually love it. It's a risk, no doubt, especially for someone attending their first ceremony, but I think she looks stunning. She kept the hair and makeup simple, with few accessories to perfectly complement the vintage-inspired dress.

I know what you're thinking--I'm biased toward Glee to make up for their award loss, but how can you deny that Jayma Mays looks beautiful in this Burberry gown? Simple color, but the details make it pop, and it fits her body like a glove. I'm also loving her hair--simple as well, but with enough volume to not to look like an everyday blowout. (And I call for more Ms. Pillsbury this season!)

My two favorite (complete) looks:

Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev looked like perfection in Zuhair Murad. I think I'm most in love with the color--the pale blush--and the split detailing. The entire look just flows--everything complements each other so well.

Talk about fitting like a glove. Sofia Vergara, I love you (*insert girl crush admission here*). Seriously. Not too many people could have pulled off this color, but with the subtle tones in her hair and her tan... flawless. It was definitely her night.
