SATC2 premiere looks + review.

I got to see Sex & the City 2, and let me just say--kudos to Patricia Field, the costume designer from the beginning of the series until now.  The outfits in the film were some of my favorites from the entire series. I plan on doing a post on each of the ladies featuring their best looks (and possibly continuing on something along the lines of a Fashion Friday series, highlighting the wardrobe of character/celebrity fashion idols).  Even their premiere outfits were stunning.  Here are the looks from the three premieres.

 New York

London

Tokyo

Out of all the amazing outfits to choose from, it's no surprise that I love ALL of SJP's and Kristin Davis'; their characters also had my favorite clothes in the series.  I love Carrie's bold/daring sense of style.  During the movie, I heard people asking "wtf does she have on?" but if they were actually fans of the show, they would understand that, to Carrie, fashion is the ultimate form of art... expression.  And I always loved Charlotte's take on classic preppy :)  These are closer pics of my top premiere looks.

I love this dress on Kristin so much, perhaps because it reminds me of my favorite outfit of hers from the show--the pink dress she wore to Brady's 1st birthday party after learning her pregnancy fell through.  Different length, but the color and hair pay homage that unforgettable look.  Simple, yet elegant.

The dress is Alexander McQueen, and it is breathtaking.  And while some might say the hat is a bit much, it is so SJP.  She wore a similar style to the London premiere of the first movie.  It could be overkill, but only she can work something like that.  What I said about fashion as art?  Yeah, this is it.

And my favorite...

I adore this entire ensemble--the print, the necklace, the hair, the shoes!  Floral is a Carrie Bradshaw staple.  SJP usually opts for more daring choices--and while this is by no means simple--I feel that this is so classic and feminine that it works perfectly.  It's by Vivienne Westwood, designer of Carrie's infamous wedding dress from the first film.

Kim and Cynthia's premiere looks were pretty standard, but I have to say, those two have never looked better.  Watching the film, I feel like they have aged the most gracefully... they looked beautiful!  Kim/Samantha looked gorgeous in her glasses in the scene where she's in her office on the phone with Smith (who looked AMAZING, too, as did Samantha's other two love interests... lucky woman! lol... damn.)

Now, as far as the film itself goes:  It is by no means a groundbreaking cinematic feat. It hasn't gotten the best reviews from critics--and that's putting it mildly-- but for any fan/follower of the series, it was enjoyable to watch.  I thought there was much less "story" (or drama) than the first, but it was so fun--and, like I said--the clothes were fun to marvel at.  Much more comedy, but there was emotion to pull you in as well.  The humor also helped move along what would otherwise be a drag, with a runtime of 2.5 hours.  While I don't think it was necessary--neither is a rumored 3rd film--I'd gladly go see as many films as they make.  Overall grade: B.
