If you know me at all (or have spent any time reading this blog), you know that I adore Johnny Depp. Literally. This man can do no wrong in my eyes. BUT, when I heard they were making a fourth
Pirates of the Caribbean movie (particularly one without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly), I was worried. Not because I doubted Johnny's ability to carry the movie -- because, well let's face it, his rendition of Captain Jack Sparrow is why we all saw the other three in the first place -- but because I was worried the story would not be up to par. I wouldn't miss seeing this movie for the world, of course, but I wanted the script to be worthy. However, when I heard about the casting of Penelope Cruz (meaning a reunion from their
Blow days), I was sooo happy.
And now, with the release of the trailer, I have no worries whatsoever. This looks amazing. I literally counted down the minutes last week and watched it
as soon as it was available.
It's so odd that Johnny would commit to playing the same character over and over, because he generally chooses roles that are very different with each film, but when he plays it so well, there's no reason to complain. Jack Sparrow has to be one of my favorite movie characters ever.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides comes out May 20, 2011.
Can. Not. Wait.
